The unexpected star lot of Christie’s 20th century auction was The Sugar Shack, one of the most recognizable paintings by American artist, Ernie Barnes. The 1976 work went for $15.3 million. The Sugar Shack, the iconic painting of dancing figures, famously graced the cover of a Marvin Gaye album and the credits of the TV show Good Times in the 1970s.
